Exploring the Ancient Wonders of Naqsh-e Rustam:
During the trip in my hometown, Iran, I visited a very special place called Naqsh-e Rustam. It’s an ancient site near Persepolis, full of amazing carvings and giant tombs built into a mountain. From the moment I got there, I felt like I had stepped back in time to a world full of kings and great stories.
Where Is Naqsh-e Rustam?
Naqsh-e Rustam is where ancient Persian kings were buried more than 2,500 years ago. As I walked closer, I saw huge carvings on the mountain. These carvings are actually the doors to tombs, where great kings like Darius the Great and Xerxes were laid to rest.
The carvings on the mountain showed pictures of the kings with their gods, along with words written in a very old language. These pictures told stories about the kings and their achievements, like how they ruled their empire and how they prayed for blessings. It was amazing to think about how much effort went into creating these artworks so long ago.
The Stunning Carvings Below
Below the tombs, there are other carvings from a later time, during the Sasanian Empire. These carvings show big events like battles and ceremonies. One carving I’ll never forget showed a king named Shapur defeating a Roman emperor. It made me imagine how powerful and brave the people of ancient Persia were.
The Feeling of Being There
Being at Naqsh-e Rustam felt magical. The quiet surroundings, the big mountains, and the warm sunlight made it a very peaceful place. It was easy to imagine what life might have been like when the kings were alive.
There weren’t many other people there when I visited, so I could take my time looking at everything. I even sat for a while just to think about how incredible it was that these carvings have lasted for so many centuries.
Tips for Visiting
If you ever visit Naqsh-e Rustam, try to go early in the morning. The sun isn’t too hot, and the view is even more beautiful. Wear comfy shoes because you’ll be walking on rocky paths. Don’t forget to bring water and maybe a snack!
Also, don’t miss visiting Persepolis, which is very close by. Together, these places tell an amazing story about the history of ancient Persia.
Why I Loved It
Visiting Naqsh-e Rustam was like traveling back in time. It made me feel small but also very connected to history. I learned so much about how people lived long ago and how they wanted to be remembered.
If you ever get the chance to go, I think you’ll love it too. It’s like stepping into a real-life history book!
